Interesting video - a must see!
JAN GEHL ON THE HUMAN SCALE OF CITIES
Inspiring talk by Danish architect, author and urban consultant Jan Gehl, one of the very few out there that study human behaviour in relation to the urban environment on the small scale. Every time, his words impress me.
He sees the city as being built at a city scale, site scale, and people scale, but feels that most architects and urban planners completely ignore the people scale. They create cities from an aerial view and ignore the life between buildings that truly makes the space work. In his practice he seeks to re-orient the city away from cars and towards the pedestrian and cyclist in order to make healthy and happy cities.Related post:

Staff Profile #2: Les Jupes
There’s two members of our lovely staff in this video. Can you spot them???
From Jazz Winnipeg -
Les Jupes are a new band from the centre of Canada versed in expansive musical landscapes, sharp lyrics, and an observer’s eye for the world. They are four Anglos with a French name making big, broad, and determined music. And they are at the centre of a prairie renaissance growing around Head in the Sand Records.

Did you know that we filmed a music video here at the HI-Winnipeg??? Friends of the HI-Winnipeg, The Lytics graced our halls and broke down the doors with this banger of a video.
Enjoy!
Over the course of the next few posts, we’re going to bring people our world here at the HI-Winnipeg. Winnipeg being a cultural hub, we’re going to profile our staff that encompass the HI-Winnipeg hostel, Lo Pub and Lo Bistro.
Does that sound like fun?
If you have 15 minutes to spare we recommend you use it on this
We posted a little preview from the gem earlier, but now the whole thing is online, finally. Full 15 minutes of amazing Iceland adventure. Equally inspiring and terrifying at times…
